If you have ever stood in front of a guitar amp with full bore distortion dialled in you will a) know just how much fun this is and b) know that you are walking a fine line between cutting tone and screeching, eardrum shattering feedback. Apart from make a lot of noise (thank goodness for the headphone out) this part of the test showed the key issue with these type of guitar interfaces - susceptibility to screeching feedback, apparently due to crosstalk from the close proximity of microphone and audio out circuits (or something similar). This has an effect on the tone of the guitar which becomes more evident, although still slight, when using a bit more gain.įinally, we stopped playing nice and opened up the screaming distortion and high gain amp models to see what these interfaces could do. This was the case in both apps, and there is a definite small volume lift when using the battery powered AmpKit LiNK over the non-powered iRig. If you listen very carefully you may hear that the AmpKit LiNK provides a slightly clearer, less muddy sound than the iRig. In Amplitube it is Preset 1 - 'Mild Crunch' and 'Captain Crunchy' in AmpKit. The next thing we are going to look at is the Crunch preset in each app with both guitar interfaces. Read on to find out what happens as the volume gets louder. In Part 2 we are going to ramp up the gain and continue to compare the performance of these two guitar interfaces. In Part 1 we set out the use for these interfaces and compared the basic dry signal passed from a guitar via these interfaces and the Clean Amp settings in the two iPad apps that partner with these devices, Amplitube and AmpKit. ![]() This is the second of a two part head to head review of iRig and AmpKit LiNK, arguably the two primary guitar (or other line level instrument) interfaces for the iPad (of the ones that use the headphone socket). "His first name was Wayne, that was a big part of it," Harris said. After exhaustive study, the mythical Waynes Award panel decided the honor will go to Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton. But it won't go to a filmmaker participating in the festival. Like any other film festival, the Bicknell event will offer its own "prestigious" award - the Waynes Award. Harris hopes several stars from the industry will show up, including Stefene Russell, featured in Harris' film "Plan 10 From Outer Space," and Russian filmmaker Evgeny Yufit. with a swap meet where festival-goers can "swap anything you want, preferably wives," said Harris, who later that day will lead a guided tour of the Butch Cassidy Monster Museum in nearby Hanksville.Īmong those expected to be on the UFO panel Saturday evening: Mildred Biesele, state director for the Mutual UFO Network, and Walter Hart, a visual effects producer whose work has appeared in "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The festival is partially funded by the Utah Travel Council, which contributed $2,000, and the Wayne County Travel Council, which donated $500. Some of the featured bugs may have come from outer space, however, Harris acknowledged. Next year, the festival's theme will be "big bug movies" - sci-fi flicks featuring large insects. "They actually do see a lot of flying saucers down there," Harris said. The Aquarius Plateau, the 7,100-foot plane where Bicknell is located, has a reputation among some locals for being a site of unusual aerial phenomena, according to Harris and James Anderson, owner of the theater. The Wayne Theatre was built in 1947 - coincidentally, the same year a flying disc allegedly crashed in the desert north of Roswell. "There's plenty of free parking," said Harris, a Salt Lake City filmmaker who shot portions of his 1991 film "Rubin and Ed" in the desert surrounding Bicknell. The festival will feature two sci-fi classics, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Forbidden Planet," and several UFO-oriented short films, including Paul Vester's "Abductees." There will be a pinto bean pie giveaway, post-movie parties both nights and a panel of "experts" who will discuss UFOs and filmmaking. The robot - named Tabbot after "Tabacha," which means spider in the Berber language - can move by both walking and turning somersaults, just like the creature it's modeled after. Inspired by the spider's unusual movement mechanism, Rechenberg, a bionics expert, developed a 10-inch-long (25 centimeters) model of a spider robot. rechenbergi is nocturnal and lives in the Erg Chebbi desert in southeastern Morocco, close to the Algerian border. To protect itself from the sun and predators, the animal weaves tubelike "towers" in the sand that are held together by silk threads. In fact, the flic-flac moves propel the spider across the sand at some 6.5 feet per second (2 meters per second), which is twice as fast as its walking speed. On the other hand, its Tunisian relative moves only by rolling its body down sand dunes. Since the foil is not only elastic, but also airtight and lightweight, it could potentially be used in other flying objects or for clothing design and in the field of architecture. The spider propels itself off the ground and moves its legs in a flic-flac motion to go uphill, downhill or on level ground. ![]() Due to its elasticity, the flying membrane stays almost crease free even when the wings are retracted. The BionicFlyingFox can thus continue flying even if the fabric sustains minor damage. The fabric’s honeycomb structure prevents small cracks in the flying membrane from increasing in size. It consists of two airtight foils and a woven elastane fabric, which are welded together at approximately 45,000 points. The membrane covering the skeleton was specially developed by the bionics team for the BionicFlyingFox. The BionicFlyingFox optimizes its behavior during flight and follows the specified courses more precisely with each circuit. The wing movements required to effectively implement the intended movement sequences are calculated by its on-board electronics. Pre-programmed flight routes stored on a computer specify the path taken by the 20.5-ounce BionicFlyingFox as it performs its maneuvers. Starting and landing are performed by the human operator an autopilot takes over during flight. The motion tracking system plans the flight paths and issues the required control commands. To enable the BionicFlyingFox to move semi-autonomously within a defined space, the robot communicates with a motion tracking system. To emulate the flying fox, among the world’s largest bats, the wing kinematics of the BionicFlyingFox are divided into primaries and secondaries with all the joints in the same plane. This incredible display of strength intrigued Khorne, Norscan God of battle. The Norseman's might was so great that he cast the towering beast to the ground without the use of weapons, and extracted from him an oath of service. Then did Mortkin seek out and overcome a massive two-headed Giant in an honest contest of strength. Then, Mortkin matched wits with Skulex the Great, fiercest and most ancient of the mighty Fire Dragons, and bound the beast to his will through trickery and lies, earning the esteem of Tzeentch, Changer of the Ways. Braving the touch of their horrific magic, he closed the distance with them and cut them down with his mighty axe, earning the favour of Nurgle. Mortkin's first victory was when he defeated the Leprous Council, a cabal of powerful Nurglite sorcerers. In that time, the Norseman performed countless herculean feats of strength. Time passes strangely near the great rift and perhaps years, decades or even centuries went by as he travelled that blasted hellscape. Whatever his previous life, Lord Mortkin won great renown in the depths of the Chaos Wastes. Thus it was, that when the man who would later be known as Lord Mortkin ventured into the madness of the True North, he gained the power he sought. According to this version of the Saga, the iron-clad barbarian king returned from a mighty sea-raid covered in glory and the favour of the Chaos Gods, yet still he sought more. Thus he traveled to the north, driven by dreams of immortality, in search of ancient power and glory that would elevate him to pre-eminence in the eyes of the Gods. In another he was a mighty chieftain of the tribes, driven by the lure of power and the whims of the gods. In some tales, he was the son of a bloodthirsty warrior-king, fathered by the king's union with a Daemon succubus and born under a blood-red sky. Many are the rumors of his life, the Sagas sung to his glory by the skald chanters of the Norse. During the war, Mortkin destroyed the ancestral seat of the von Raukov line, razed the cities of Kludburgh, Volganof and Saltraken, and personally slew the heir of the von Raukov house, Oleg von Raukov, in single combat. He is primarily notable for his long and devastating campaign against Ostland and Nordland in 2515 IC, where he slaughtered the entire province in an orgy of bloody revenge in retribution for the destruction of countless Norse villages along the coastlands of Norsca by Elector Count Valmir von Raukov.
